Make a tax set apply to your room rates

You need: permission to edit taxes on this property.

#Steps

  1. 1

Select the property you want to work on in the top bar.

  2. 2

Open "Property → Tax Sets". The Applied Rate Plans column counts the rate plans each set is already pricing — a nought there is why the tax is missing from your bookings.

  3. 3

Open the three-dot menu at the end of the set’s row and choose Edit, or "View Details" and then edit from there. In the drawer, switch to the Usage tab.

  4. 4

"Select Room Types and Rate Plans" opens a list of your room types with their rate plans underneath. Tick a rate plan to price it with this set, or tick the room type to take all of its plans at once. If it says No Rate Plans Available you have no rate plans yet — Create Rate Plan takes you to Property → Rooms and Rates to make one first. Open in ClearHost ↗

  5. 5

Click "Save Changes". On a set that is already pricing something, a banner reads This tax set is currently in use and a box asks you to confirm with Apply Changes; the new taxes take effect on bookings made from that moment, not on bookings already taken.

  6. 6

A rate plan can carry one tax set at a time, so ticking it here takes it off whichever set had it before. Untick a plan and it goes back to being sold with no tax at all.

  7. 7

"Set as Active", on the row menu of any set that is not already the active one, is a different thing and prices nothing in ClearHost by itself. It marks the set with the Active badge and makes it the one filled in automatically on rate plans you create from then on. Rate plans that already exist keep whatever set they had — including none.

  8. 8

Do not read the "Active" badge as proof anything is being charged. The very first tax set you create on a property is made active for you, without anyone opening that menu, so a brand-new set can wear the badge while its Applied Rate Plans still reads nought. The Applied Rate Plans count is the number to trust.

#Good to know

ClearHost prices a booking by looking at the rate plan it was made on and following that plan’s tax set; nothing else is consulted, which is why attaching the set to rate plans is the step that matters. The Applied Rate Plans count comes from the tax set’s own record while the pricing comes from the rate plan’s, and the two are written by separate calls — so on the rare occasion the count looks right but no tax appears, open the rate plan on Property → Rooms and Rates and check its Tax Sets field. The active set is not inert everywhere: on a property connected to the channel manager ClearHost also sends it on as that property’s default tax set, so your connected channels may price with it even though ClearHost itself will not until a rate plan carries it. Staff cannot make any of these changes.
