Record blackout dates on a discount code
In ClearHost: Booking Engine → Coupons.
Where: Booking Engine → Coupons in ClearHost
You need: Booking Engine on the property's plan, and permission to edit channels on this property.
#Steps
- 1
Select the property you want to work on in the top bar.
- 2
Open "Booking Engine → Coupons".
- 3
Read this before you spend time on it. Blackout Dates are saved onto the coupon and shown back to you, but ClearHost does not act on them yet: the booking page never sends the guest’s arrival date to the coupon check, so a stay that falls inside a blacked-out period is still discounted. If what you actually need is the code to stop working over a period, skip to the last step. Carry on here if you want the dates on record.
- 4
Find the code in the list, open the three-dot menu at the end of its row and choose Edit. The form opens on the first step, so click Next twice to reach Restrictions.
- 5
Under "Blackout Dates" click "Add a date range". The row it adds arrives set to today at both ends, so click its field and pick the first and last day of the period in one go. Click Add a date range again for each further period — Christmas and a spring festival are two rows, not one — and use the bin button beside a row to take it off again. Finish with Update Coupon.
- 6
To stop the code over a period for real, use one of the two things ClearHost does enforce. Either edit the coupon and shorten its Validity Dates so the window ends before the period starts, or open the row’s three-dot menu and choose Disable Coupon for the duration, then Enable Coupon when it should come back. Both take effect the moment you confirm.
- 7
Check what landed by opening the coupon: its "Details" tab lists "Blackout Dates", printing only the first day of each range, so read it as one entry per period rather than as the full spans — nothing has been truncated. The Valid From and Valid To rows on the Applicability tab show the window that the booking page actually enforces.
#Good to know
Minimum Advance Booking sits in the same step and is unenforced for the same reason — it also depends on the arrival date the booking page does not send. Shortening the validity window and disabling the coupon are both fully reversible and neither touches bookings already made with the code. Blackout ranges are stored per coupon, so blacking a period out on one code says nothing about your other codes.
